72 Miles, 4 Days: Lakeside Bliss on the Pacific Crest Trail
I got back on the trail again.
Society started to fade away again back into the woods I go.
One step at a time life started to slow down again.
I planned on taking this section a bit slower because I was waiting for my package to be delivered.
Summit Inn is a place one can get their packages shipped.
I planned to do five or six days to give my package time to ship.
This section of trail had alpine lakes almost every 10 miles.
This must be why everyone loves this section.
If you take your time, this section can be done in 6 days averaging about 10 miles a day.
I planned on doing it in 5 days stopping at the bigger lakes along the way.
The first lake I stopped at was Trap Lake.
It was beautiful and the water was so close and easy to access.
I finally had time to take it all in.
I am not exhausted from hiking 15-20 miles in a day.
I was able to sit and chat with people for a while.
I watched people taking dips in the water.
I would have jumped in too I was worried about chaffing from being in water I didn't know what bacteria could have been in.
Even though Washington state has some of the cleanest lakes I have ever seen.
I got some rest for the day chilling in my tent.
The next morning I planned to make it to another Lake but this time I would stay between two lakes.
Deception lake and Daisy lake is the next stop.
When I hit Glacier Lake, some people asked if I would hike over Surprise Gap.
I didnt look at my map so I didn't understand what they meant.
I just kept hiking and tagged along with them for a bit.
I was asked if my backpack was uncomfortable because it was leaning back a lot.
I didnt notice anything because all the weight was on my hips.
So, I pull the shoulder straps in to get the bag closer to my back.
As we started up some switchbacks I saw the older men hopping from rock to rock on Suprise Gap.
Then checked my map a bit later to realize Suprise Gap would have cut about a mile off the trail.
I was already heading up the switchbacks and decided to stay on this path.
It looked like a lot of fun to climb the gap.
Once I got to the top of the switchbacks I saw my first alpine lake on the side of the mountain.
I could not believe a lake could be in such an area.
I also thought the lake looked more like a pond.
I was also used to lakes being massive for example Lake Michigan or Kinkaid lake.
Something big enough to jet ski or drive a boat on without going in circles.
It was not a long day until I made it to the lakes.
I found a sweet spot in between both of them.
I set up my tent with a view of the lakes and a mountain.
I thought this was the life.
Being in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful view.
The next day I woke up and chatted with a family for a while.
They were giving away granola bars.
They packed too much weight and wanted to get rid of what they didnt need.
I took maybe half of what they offered me.
I wanted to take it all but I would have added a few more pounds to my bag.
I worked my way to deep lake.
This was one of the most beautiful lakes I have seen so far.
It was great being able to see it from the top of the ridge line and working my way down getting a different perspective of it.
Once I got to the bottom I was amazed.
I enjoyed being able to take a break from the long days and enjoy the views.
The next day I got a text from my mom with one bar of signal.
Saying my package was delivered.
I was excited.
I started to move faster because I wanted to cut my 5 days down to 4.
It was late when I got this text so I found the next campsite.
On my last night, I camped out a few miles away from Snoqualmie Pass.
I found some mountain goats.
I did not want to distribute them so I walked around the part of the trail they were hanging out on.
This was the last pass I had to cross before I started my downhill travel to town.
If I was going to pay for a hotel I wanted to make sure I paid for it with the whole day to relax in a be rather than only get a few hours.
The next morning I got up early and started moving.
It was still dark out hiking down the mountain into the valley.
I saw an old couple pass me.
I was excited to see the town so close.
I could relax and eat a big meal.
Once I got to Summit Inn they told me I was too early and could only check in around 2 or 3 pm.
I got lucky and there was a room clean around noon so he told me.
Grabbed a fat breakfast to kill some while I waited for my room.
I also did not want to open my package until I got into my room so I could organize everything.
Once I finished I took a moment to chill and went to get my key for my room.
